Itinerary

Day 1: Collection from Delhi - Airport pick-up and transfer to Hotel Grand Central or Hotel Dreamland in Karol Bagh / New Delhi.

Day 2: Delhi - Kalka (train + 30 km) - Express Train via Chandigarh to Kalka. After a briefing on bikes and traffic and a few rounds at the parking lot, we move up a few kilometers towards Shimla before turning back and maybe having a swim in the pool on the roof of Hotel Windsmoor.

Day 3: Kalka - Shimla (80 km) - Strating from around 500 meters in altitude, we cruise up to Shimla, the former summer residence of the British Raj, at an altitude of around 2200 meters. A stroll along the "Mall" and to "scandal-point" gives us a feel for the life of the Raj.

Day 4: Shimla - Mandi (220 km) - An endless up and down and round and round... bends, bends, bends and the most memorable scenery on the road to Mandi. Ever-changing scenery, thick forests, and paddy terraces make us feel as if we are riding in the hills of Nepal.

Day 5: Mandi - Manali (115 km) - After yesterday's beautiful but tiring ride, we'll have an easier 115 km ride today. Along the Beas river, we make our way into the Kullu valley, famed for its temples, shawls, and apple-orchards. Right at the entrance to the valley is a spectacular temple situated on a cliff at the other side of Beas. To avoid the Kullu traffic jam, we cross to the right-hand side of the river and follow the old Naggar road towards Manali. A lunch stop at Naggar leaves time to visit Naggar castle and maybe Roehrich gallery above Naggar. A treat awaits us at our night stop: Negis Mayflower and its delicious trout preparation.

Day 6: Manali - Keylong (110 km) - Today takes us higher than most peaks in the Alps. Bend after bend brings us closer to the Rothang-La (3,890 meters), for the Kullu valley settlers "the end of the inhabitable world" and weather shed. A photo stop and some snacks will strengthen us before we move into Lahaul. In a few more kilometers, we'll reach Keylong and fill up our bikes at the last petrol station for about 350 km.

Day 7: Keylong - Sarchu (100 km) - Slowly but surely, we'll ride higher than the tips of Europe's highest mountains. Baralacha Pass forces us up to 4,880 meters before we descend to Sarchu, where we spend the night in tents at a breathtaking (in the true sense of the word!) 4,200 meter camp. We bet you'll agree that the scenery here is breathtaking as well!

Day 8: Sarchu - Rumtse (180 km) - Two times today, we'll cross the 5,000 meter mark. Lachlang-La and Taglang-La (at 5,360 meters, supposedly the second highest motorable pass) will tell us how well we and our bikes have adjusted to the altitude. We'll be surrounded by scenery "out of Tolkien's land of hobbits", as one overwhelmed traveller stated. In Rumtse (4,200 meters), the crew of Hotel Bijoo in Leh sets up camp for us.

Day 9: Rumtse - Leh (90 km) - Today we are bound for Leh, Ladakh's capitol, also known as the "Land of Passes". Leh's population is approximately 15,000 people during the year, with twice as many in the summer. On the way, we might stop in the monasteries of Hemis and Tikse, with its stunning statue of Maytreya, the future Buddha.

Day 10: Leh (80 km) - When we reach Leh, we'll take a day to relax and prepare the special permit we need to cross into the Nubra valley tomorrow.

Day 11: Leh - Nubra Valley (140 km) - The Nubra valley is the highlight of our tour. The highest motorable road in the world leads us via Kardung-La (5,606 meters) into the Nubra valley. We'll spend the night in Diskit with enough time to spare to visit the monastery and the Sand Dunes (at 3,400 meters!) at Hunder, a few kilometers further into the valley and as far as we are allowed to go.

Day 12: Nubra Valley - Alchi (180 km) - Again we cross Kardung-La and after a short refreshment in Leh, we move on to Alchi with its famous monastery in a tranquil setting along the Indus river.

Day 13: Alchi - Lamayuru - Leh (170 km) - Leaving Alchi in the morning, we first drive along the Indus river before winding up in endless bends toward Lamayuru and the "Moon Valley". The three-week tour proceeds here towards Kargil, but for this shorter tour, we turn around and head back to Leh.

Day 14: Leh - Delhi - We take the early morning flight back to Delhi. Transfer to our hotel and the afternoon is free to roam the markets. *We arrive back a day earlier because Leh is a high altitude airport, and is therefore vulnerable to flight cancellations. We therefore plan a day ahead to ensure you reach your international flights.

Day 15: Delhi - One last day for sightseeing in Delhi. The Red Fort, Jama Mashid, and Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi are all fantastic places to explore. After a farewell dinner, we'll transfer you to the airport for your flight back home.

Day 16: Flight from Delhi

Note: We reserve the right to make changes.
