| DAY BY DAY | ||||||||||||||||||||||
1. Day:Arrival at the airport in Malaga. We'll go to La Herradura, where we'll pick up our rental motorbikes. Introductions will be made over dinner and a glass of Spanish wine. 2. Day: La Herradura - Aracena (215 miles) Along the magnificent Mediterranean coast via Malaga, Antequera, into Sierre de Aracena, the heart of the country. We'll pass the Andalusian capital city, Sevilla on our way to Aracena. 3. Day: Aracena - Evora - Marvăo (190 miles) Over the border to Portugal. We will visit the impressive Megalith monuments of Kromlech, close to Evora, the center of this millennium old, mysterious gigantic rock exhibit. From a distance we can already see the Serra de Mamede, our where the charming town of Marvăo dominates the impressive peak. Here we will enjoy the warm-hearted friendliness of the Portuguese. 4. Day: Marvăo - Sierra Estrela (210 miles) We'll have one last view of the south before we start our trip north through one of the most attractive Portuguese landscapes, the Serra de Estrela. The highest mountain in Portugal offers lots of curves and lots of fun for every motorbiker. In the evening we will relax in a comfortable atmosphere with excellent Portuguese cuisine - here in the mountainous region, there are many venison specialties on the menu. 5. Day: Sierra Estrela - Vila Real (120 miles) Relaxed and invigorated, we'll steer our motorbikes through Viseu and Lamego to Rio Douro across an enchanting mountain pass. This stunning landscape is decoreated with Port grapevines. Beyond Rio Douro lies Vila Real, our destination for the night. 6. Day: Vila Real - Vila Praia de Ăncora (170 miles) We'll continue our trip north through landscape punctuated by mountains, river valleys and deep canyons. Verdant vines from the world renowned Vinho Verde surround us. We'll rest in the bejeweled town of Moncăo before leaving for Vila Praia de Ăncora, a charming town on the Atlantic coast. We will check into our first class accommodation, relax and enjoy the luxuries of the Atlantic. 7. Day: Vila Praia de Ăncora We will enjoy a well deserved day of relaxation, sun, wind and the vastness of the Atlantic. We recommend a motorbike trip through the surrounding countryside, perhaps through Paredes de Coura, the oldest town in Portugal. 8. Day: Vila Praia de Ăncora - Porto (60 miles) The lively, bubbly city of Porto awaits us today. We will arrive very early in Porto to ensure you ample time to absorb the easygoing street life. In Vila Nova de Gaia, across the river Douro, we will visit one of the many resident Port wine cellars, and will of course taste some of their delicious wine. From the waterfront we can admire the unique Kulisse Porto`s. 9.Day: Porto - Tomar (200 miles) Today's plan leads us over the rolling hills to Tomar, a picturesque town. Tomar was, for many centuries the capital city of Portugal, the knight of the Templerordens. The majestic Convento de Cristo belongs to the architectural masterpieces of the country. 10. Day: Tomar - Lisbon (80 miles) Only few kilometers still separate us from Portugal's capital city, Lisbon (Lisboa), which lies on the north shore of Tejo. The best way to get an impression of the atmosphere of Lisbon's old town is to take a walk through the bairro (district) Alfama. Here one finds a labyrinth of untouched narrow streets, a maze of cobblestone alleys, old houses, ancient palaces, fish stalls and pubs. 11. Day: Lisbon - Roundtrip (60 miles) We will drive west, until we reach the most western point of the European continent, the "end of the world". The Atlantic seems so infinite from this point that the bravery of early explorers becomes clear. 12. Day: Lisbon - Zafra (180 miles) After the hustle and bustle of the city, we head in an easterly direction, crossing the border of Spain into Badajoz. Here, the Extremadura region is defined by small charming Sierras with their oak forests and grazing herds dotting the landscape. We will stop in Zafra, where the Conquistador Hernán Cortés stayed before his journey to Mexico. Tonight's hotel is named after him. 13. Day: Zafra - Cordoba (120 miles) From Zafra we continue to Cordoba, one of Europe's largest capital cities in the 11th Century, where we will spend the night. The city's former glamour is visible in its elaborate buildings, such as the Mezquita Mosque and the Jewish quarter of Juderia. 14. Day: Cordoba - La Herradura (140 miles) We leave Cordoba and travel southeast through Granada. Here we will enjoy the elaborately built Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada peaks. We will drive back to the starting point of our trip via a breathtakingly beautiful mountain pass. Over a farewell dinner we will look back at some of the highlights of the past 2 weeks. 15. Day: Departure Note: We reserve the right to make any small changes during the course of the tour. |
