East Europe..."Transylvania" |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Established in 1997, this motorcycle adventure takes you back to a time of a younger Europe, when local farmers rode to their fields on horse drawn wagons, letting their livestock follow behind. Ride with us through the "Ups and Downs" of Romania, a country which is quietly regenerating after decades of the communist leadership. Deep in the Carpathians, the descendants of Dracula will welcome you with luxury fit for kings. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Day 1:Arrival at Timisoara Airport / Romania, Take a shuttle to the Hotel Downtown. Stroll down the walkway to a welcome dinner and make introductions. Day 2: Timisoara - Semenic (120 miles) Pick up your motorcycle and start with the group on main roads, some paved, others only graveled, through the hilly countryside where shepherds guard their herds, and geese and goats on the road become a regular sight. The hotel is located in the small winter-sport resort of Mt. Semenic. Day 3: Semenic - Baile Herculane (195 miles) Mt. Semenic offers excellent off-road riding. Here you can decide to either take exciting forest trails or the no less spectacular windy paved roads along the Danube. We'll end up in Baile Herculane, where our hotel comes complete with a 200 year-old Roman bath. Day 4: Baile Herculane - Voineasa (180 miles) Baile Herculane's main attraction is its surrounding countryside. For those who want to ride dirt, there are remote curvy gravel roads through the hills. Visit the monastery of Tismana, one of the oldest monasteries in Romania! Paved and gravel roads wind deep into the Transylvanian forest where we spend the night. Day 5: Voineasa - Sibiu (160 miles) Throughout these densely forested mountains, there are several trails to select from. Ride on easier dirt roads via the 1665 meter high Tartarau Pass, or try the Carpathian mountains via the 2000 mtr. high Sterpului Pass. Our hotel is located in the middle of the beautiful old town of Sibiu. Day 6: Sibiu - Vidraru (105 miles) Ride mostly unpaved roads across typical Saxon towns, where fortified church towers standing against the backdrop of the Fagaras mountains. Enjoy the twisty paved Trans Fagaras highway, 2000 mtr. above sea level. At the hotel, we will offer you a BBQ by the lake, surrounded by alpine majesty. Day 7: Vidraru - Poinana Brasov (140 miles) Once more we will cross the Carpathians on curvy mountain passes. You can chose between dirt and gravel roads. Your tour guide will prepare a picnic lunch in this gorgeous scenery. The next destination is the most well known attraction in Romania, Dracula's Castle! Day 8: Poinana Brasov - Bazna (160 miles) Poiana Brasov is set at an altitude of 1000m, at the foot of the spectacular Postavaru Mountains. Narrow roads, dirt or gravel, depending on your preference, will lead you along the Olt Valley to Sighisoara, the birthplace of Vlad Tepes (Dracula). Today's hotel is one of the finest Spars in Romania. Enjoy a massage or a beer by the pool! Day 9: Bazna - Belis (165 miles) Immediately the road literally disappears, horse tracks will lead us across the hilly fields to Aiud, an attractive town despite the grim reputation of its prison, which was used to hold Soviet spies during World War II. We will drive through profoundly alpine nature to our overnight destination in Belis. Day 10: Belis - Vata de Jos (150 miles) We'll have some of the best off-road riding across the deep forest. It doesn't matter if you decide to take the more technical route to visit the 'ice cave' of Scarisoara or stay on better gravel roads to get to the 'cave of the bears' in Ursilor, as both are unforgettable adventures. At night, another Spar Hotel resort is waiting for you. Day 11: Vata de Jos - Timisoara (145 miles) In medieval times, the mountains you're riding through were a main resource for gold. A small forest trail leads into the valley of the Mures River. The villagers are immensely hospitable, and with a little luck, you can watch how they grind their corn or distillate snaps. You are invited to join the group for a farewell dinner. Day 12: Departure Note: We reserve the right to make changes any time |
