Besides the chance to explore breathtaking mountain scenery and the misty dark forests, this tour also provides the opportunity to discover the magic of the unique multi-ethnic Transylvanian culture and tradition. Testing your expectations of a motorcycle adventure. This is a single country tour incorporating eight major regions, 3500 kilometers (2200 miles), and fourteen riding days on asphalt roads. Most of our tour takes place in Transylvania, a historic region of Romania, but reaches the other two as well (Moldova and Valachia). The eight smaller regions differ ethnically, geographically, and culturally: Dobrogea, near the Black Sea and Danube Delta; Moldova; Maramures; the Highlanders of the Western Carpathians; Wallachia; the Saxon region; and the Szekler region of Transylvania. All together in one ride, these incredible regions form a tour that's almost too much for a typical tourist to handle - but perfect for an adventurer.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bucharest - Collection from Bucharest airport.

Day 2: Bucharest to Mahmudia - We'll ride towards the Black Sea and Danube Delta. 310 km (193 miles)

Day 3: Mahmudia - On our third day, you'll have a chance to discover the Danube Delta (UNESCO world heritage of biosphere) and the shore of the Black Sea, with its multi-ethnic (Turks, Tatars, Macedonians, Bulgarians, Ukrainians, and Romanians) heritage and amazing water scenery.

Day 4: Mahmudia to Covasna - Today, the road will lead us through Dobrogea and southern Moldova's wine region, then we'll take an unbelievable mountain road to the city of Covasna, the city of 1,000 mineral water springs and the most eastern corner of Szekler region. 320 km (200 miles)

Day 5: Covasna to Sovata - A full day between the Szeklers (Hungarian-speaking Romanians with a unique cultural heritage), and the amazing natural scenery, with crater lakes, salt mountains, pine forests, trout-filled mountain creeks, and narrow windy roads. 200 km (125 miles)

Day 6: Sovata to Targu Neamt - Riding some astonishing forest roads, we'll reach the unbelievable Bicaz Canyon, then the immense dam lake of Bicaz. We'll spend the night at a Moldova monastery among the monks. 200 km (125 miles)

Day 7: Targu Neamt to Salistea - The fun continues on deep forest roads amonst shady mountain foothills, toward the mythical Maramures region. We'll sleep at a traditional, family-owned guest house. 240 km (150 miles)

Day 8: Maramures - Monumental wooden gates, traditional small farms, pottery, wood carving, churches made entirely of wood, hidden small villages, and specific food and drinks. Of course, there is a happy cemetary as well. 200 km (125 miles)

Day 9: Salistea to Rimetea - Heading south to the unique Turda canyon and fascinating salt mine, then evening in the village of Rimetea, where all the houses are protected by UNESCO. 200 km (125 miles)

Day 10: Rimetea to Rau de Mori - A morning spent in the unbelievable scenery of Western Carpathian's highlanders, the icy cave of Scarisoara, and then a ride up to Deva fort and a visit to the famous Hunedoara castle. 300 km (186 miles)

Day 11: Rau de Mori to Herculane - If you weren't overwhelmed by the scenery so far, the Danube Canyon and the Iron Gates will knock you down. 310 km (193 miles)

Day 12: Herculane to Sibiu - Riding all day on the challenging roads of Transylvanian Alps, deep in the heart of them, then to Sibiu along the breathtaking Olt narrows. 360 km (224 miles)

Day 13: Sibiu to Brasov - We'll be taking our time in Sibiu (the cultural capital of Europe in 2007) to experience the Saxon life, followed by the old Saxon city of Sighisoara and then Brasov. 200 km (125 miles)

Day 14: Brasov to Balea Lac - Still on Saxon land, we'll visit Ranov castle, Bran castle, and Fagaras fort, then start our amazing journey up to the Trans-Fagars high mountain road. We'll stop at the top (2100 meters high) and sleep near the glacier lake in the cottage that once belonged to dictator Ceausescu. 200 km (125 miles)

Day 15: Balea Lac to Bucharest - We'll continue on our way down, near the huge dam lake of Vidraru. The bravest can try a bungee jump of 166 meters from the top of the dam, or simply admire the rainbow on the falling water. We'll stop to admire the Poienari ruins, the fort that really belonged to Vlad Tepes, later mistakenly called Dracula. Fast ride back to Bucharest.
