Australia..."Enduro" Tour
|
|
|
|
On this tour of Australia, we'll visit many of the attractions the South-North route has to offer, but in order to show you real Australia, we avoid taking the main tourist routes. If you've ever wanted to rough it in the Australian outback, this tour is for you - more than three quarters of our nights will be spent in bush camps in the outback! We cover about 6,000 km (3,700 mi) of road, about half of which are unpaved. Riders should be reasonably experienced.

This tour is suitable both for single riders and pillion riders. There is also a place in the support vehicle, and you can join our tour on your own bike or with one of our rental 4WD cars. Although we recommend group riding on some days, group riding is not required, as there will be a daily route briefing each morning.

DAY BY DAY
We leave Melbourne and ride via Echuca to Broken Hill and Tibooburra. From here, we take a good dirt track 56 km (35 mi) north and then follow the famous Dog Fence built along the border of New South Wales & Queensland. This is the longest man-made barrier in the world. We travel to Innamincka, close to where the famous explorers Burke and Wills perished in 1860.
From Innamincka we cross the Stony Stuart Desert north towards Birdsville, a characteristic hub in the middle of nowhere. We stay here for one day and, yes, we will visit the world famous Birdsville Pub! before we travel north to Bedourie in the Channel Country. We take a dirt road, called the Plenty Highway, west and cross into the Northern Territory to visit Alice Springs where we will stay for two days. From here, you will have the opportunity to visit Uluru-Ayers Rock which is around 450 km (280 mi) from Alice Springs. Our tour guide will be happy to assist you booking a day trip or, if you prefer to explore the Rock on your own, a rental car from Alice Springs (please note that this is an optional service and is not included in the tour price). 'Alice', as the locals call it, and its surroundings have so much to see and do that even one week would not be enough.
After a well deserved rest we take the little travelled Tanami Track to Halls Creek passed the Southern Kimberleys into Western Australia.
We stop at Wolfe Crater, a huge meteorite crater. It is the biggest crater in Australia, and you will get an idea of what can happen when the next meteorite might be hitting earth. An optional extra is to take a scenic flight over the recently opened Purnululu - Bungle Bungle National Park. An enormous area, full of strange dome-shaped rock formations: an image that will stay in your mind forever...cameras a must! We continue to Kununurra, an oasis in this harsh country. Here we enjoy a day off and a boat trip to the gorges or a flight of Purnulu.
The next day we head back into the Northern Territory towards Katherine and stay at Edith Falls. The last leg to Darwin is via beautiful Litchfield National Park where we will stay overnight if time permits.
Note: We reserve the right to make changes.
